Changing your WiFi password is a two-minute job. You log in to your router's admin panel, find the Wireless settings and type in your new password. All routers work the same way - only the interface looks different.
Step 1 - Log In to Your Router
- Open a browser on a device connected to your WiFi.
- Type your router's IP address into the address bar. Try `http://192.168.1.1` or `http://192.168.0.1`. Fritz!Box users: try `http://fritz.box`.
- Enter your admin username and password. Both are usually on the sticker on the bottom of your router.
Step 2 - Find Wireless Settings
Once logged in, look for one of these menu items:
- Wireless (TP-Link, Netgear)
- WiFi or WLAN (ASUS, Huawei)
- Wireless Settings (D-Link, Linksys)
- Home Network (Fritz!Box)
Step 3 - Change the Password
- Find the Password, Key, Pre-Shared Key or WPA Password field.
- Clear the current password and type your new one.
- Click Save or Apply.
- The router applies the change. All connected devices disconnect.
What Makes a Good WiFi Password?
A strong WiFi password is at least 12 characters long. Mix letters (upper and lower case), numbers and a symbol or two. Avoid:
- Your name, address or date of birth
- Common words like "password" or "internet"
- The router's default password (change it from the default)
Router-Specific Notes

TP-Link - Go to Wireless > Wireless Security. The password field is labeled Wireless Password.
ASUS - Go to Wireless > General. The WPA Pre-Shared Key field holds the password.
Huawei - Go to WLAN > WLAN Basic Settings. The password field is labeled WPA PreSharedKey.
