Without speed limits, one customer streaming Netflix in HD can ruin the connection for everyone else on your Piso WiFi network. The speed limiter prevents this. It caps each user's download and upload speed so everyone gets a fair share of your available bandwidth.
This guide covers how to configure the speed limiter, what speeds to set and how to fix performance problems.
Why Limit Speed on Piso WiFi
Your ISP connection has a fixed amount of bandwidth. A 50 Mbps plan means 50 Mbps total - shared among all connected devices. Without limits, bandwidth is first-come-first-served. Heavy users eat it all.
Speed limiting solves three problems:
- Fair access. Every customer gets usable internet, not just the first few.
- More simultaneous users. Capped speeds mean your connection supports more people at once.
- Better customer experience. Consistent 3 Mbps feels better than random spikes and drops.
How to Set Up the Speed Limiter
#
Step 1: Log In to the Admin Panel
Connect to your Piso WiFi network. Open a browser and go to `http://10.0.0.1` or http://10.0.0.0.1. Enter your admin credentials.
Step 2: Find Bandwidth Control
Look for Bandwidth Control, Speed Limiter, QoS or Traffic Management in the menu. The label varies by firmware (ADOPiSoft, LPB, custom builds).
Step 3: Set Global Limits
Some panels let you set a global maximum first. This is the total bandwidth your Piso WiFi system uses. Set it slightly below your ISP speed to leave headroom:
- ISP plan: 50 Mbps download / 25 Mbps upload
- Global limit: 45 Mbps download / 20 Mbps upload
Step 4: Set Per-User Limits
This is the important part. Set the maximum speed each individual user gets:
| Use Case | Download Limit | Upload Limit | Max Users (on 50 Mbps) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Basic browsing, social media | 2 Mbps | 1 Mbps | 20-25 |
| Standard use (YouTube 480p, Facebook) | 3 Mbps | 1.5 Mbps | 15-17 |
| Comfortable use (YouTube 720p, video calls) | 5 Mbps | 2 Mbps | 9-10 |
| Premium tier (HD streaming, gaming) | 10 Mbps | 3 Mbps | 4-5 |
Most Filipino operators set 3-5 Mbps download as the sweet spot. It handles Facebook, TikTok, YouTube and Messenger video calls without complaints.
Step 5: Save and Test
Save your settings. Connect a device as a regular user (not admin) and run a speed test at fast.com or speedtest.net. The result should match your configured limit.
TCP and UDP Priority Settings
Some admin panels offer protocol-based priority. TCP handles web browsing, downloads and streaming. UDP handles gaming and voice/video calls.
If your customers mostly browse and use social media, prioritize TCP. If gaming cafes are nearby and gamers use your WiFi, give UDP higher priority to reduce lag.
Setting this up varies by firmware:
- Go to QoS or Traffic Priority in the admin panel.
- Set TCP priority to High and UDP to Normal (or the other way around for gaming users).
- Save.
Recommended Speeds for Different Setups
| Setup Type | ISP Speed | Per-User Limit | Target Users |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sari-sari store | 25-35 Mbps | 2-3 Mbps | 8-12 |
| Boarding house | 50-100 Mbps | 5 Mbps | 10-20 |
| Waiting area / terminal | 35-50 Mbps | 2 Mbps | 15-25 |
| Co-working space | 100+ Mbps | 10 Mbps | 10+ |
| Rural barangay | 10-20 Mbps | 1-2 Mbps | 5-10 |
Match the per-user limit to what your ISP can deliver. Overpromising speed creates frustrated customers.
Troubleshooting Slow Connections
All users are slow even with limits set. Your ISP connection may be the bottleneck. Run a speed test from a device connected directly to the modem (bypassing the Piso WiFi router). If the ISP speed is low, the limiter cannot give users more than what's available.
One user is still hogging bandwidth. Check if the limiter is actually active. Some firmware requires a reboot after changing settings. Also verify the user is going through the Piso WiFi system and not connected to the ISP modem directly.
Speed test shows correct limits but browsing feels slow. High latency (ping) causes this. Speed and latency are different. If your ISP has 50ms+ ping times, pages feel sluggish even at decent speeds. There is no fix on the Piso WiFi side - it depends on the ISP.
Speeds drop at peak hours. This is normal. ISPs often have congestion in the evening. Your Piso WiFi limiter works correctly, but the raw connection is slower during peak times. Consider upgrading your ISP plan or getting a business-grade line.
Admin panel shows no Bandwidth Control option. Your firmware may not support per-user limits. Update to the latest version. ADOPiSoft and LPB both include bandwidth control in current builds. Custom or older firmwares may need a manual update.
Speed Limiter vs No Limiter
Running without a speed limiter works only if you have very few users. With 5 or more simultaneous connections, you need limits. The difference is dramatic:
- Without limiter: First user gets 40 Mbps, second gets 8 Mbps, third gets 2 Mbps. Complaints follow.
- With limiter at 5 Mbps: All three users get a stable 5 Mbps. Everyone is happy.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I limit speed on Piso WiFi?
Log in at `http://10.0.0.1` or `http://10.0.0.0.1`. Go to Bandwidth Control or Speed Limiter. Set per-user download and upload limits and save. What is a good speed limit?
3-5 Mbps download and 1-2 Mbps upload covers browsing, social media and standard video streaming.Does the limit apply to all users equally?
Yes. Each device gets the same maximum speed when per-user limits are configured. Can one user still take all the bandwidth?
Not with the speed limiter active. Every user is capped at the same maximum.Should I limit upload speed too?
Yes. Set upload to roughly half the download limit. This keeps video calls and file sharing from eating your connection.Related guides: Piso WiFi Pause Time | Chrome Piso WiFi Pause Time | 10.0.0.1 Admin Login
