routerlogin.net - Netgear Router Login & Admin Access

Type `routerlogin.net` into your browser while connected to a Netgear router. The admin panel opens. Default login is `admin` / `password` (lowercase p). This works on all Netgear routers including Nighthawk, Orbi and budget models.

Quick answer: Open http://routerlogin.net or http://192.168.1.1 in your browser. Log in with admin / password. Yes, the default password is literally the word "password".

Netgear is one of the few router brands that uses a dedicated login domain instead of just an IP address. You type `routerlogin.net` in the address bar, and the router intercepts the request and shows its admin page. It's not a public website - it only works when you're on the Netgear network.

What About routerlogin.mobi?

Older Netgear documentation and some device stickers mention `routerlogin.mobi` as an alternative login address. It worked the same way as `routerlogin.net`. Netgear no longer uses this domain actively, but some older routers still respond to it. Stick with `routerlogin.net` or `192.168.1.1` for the most reliable access.

How to Log In to a Netgear Router

  1. Connect to the Netgear router via WiFi or Ethernet cable.
  2. Open a browser and type `http://routerlogin.net` into the address bar.
  3. A login window appears. Enter `admin` as the username and `password` as the password.
  4. You're in the Netgear admin panel (called Netgear Genie on older models or Nighthawk on newer ones).
The default password is literally the word `password`. Not your WiFi password, not a random string - just `password`. Netgear has used this default for years.

Netgear Default Credentials by Model

Product LineExamplesDefault Login
Nighthawk (WiFi 6/6E)RAX50, RAX80, RAXE500admin / password
Nighthawk (older AC)R7000, R7800, R8000admin / password
Orbi meshRBK50, RBK752, RBK853admin / password
Budget / N seriesR6120, R6020, WNR2020admin / password
Cable modem/routerC6250, C7000, CAX80admin / password

Notice the pattern? Netgear uses `admin` / `password` across the board. Some newer models are starting to include a unique password on the device sticker, but most still ship with the classic default.

Using the Nighthawk App

The Nighthawk app is Netgear's companion app for managing your router from your phone.

  1. Download Netgear Nighthawk from Google Play or the App Store.
  2. Connect to your Netgear WiFi.
  3. Open the app and sign in with your Netgear account (or create one).
  4. The app discovers your router and shows the dashboard.
Orbi mesh systems use the separate Netgear Orbi app.

Both apps let you change WiFi settings, check connected devices, run speed tests and update firmware. They're the easiest way to manage your Netgear if you don't want to type IP addresses.

Changing Your Netgear WiFi Password

  1. Log in at `routerlogin.net` or `192.168.1.1`.
  2. Go to Wireless (older UI) or WiFi Settings (Nighthawk UI).
  3. Change the password in the Passphrase or Network Key field.
  4. Click Apply. The router saves the settings and all devices disconnect.
You can also change it through the Nighthawk or Orbi app.

Changing the Admin Password

The admin password (`password` by default) protects your router settings. Change it immediately after first setup.

  1. Log in at routerlogin.net.
  2. Go to Advanced > Administration > Set Password.
  3. Enter the old password, then your new password twice.
  4. Click Apply.
This is separate from your WiFi password. The admin password protects the settings panel. The WiFi password protects your network.

Troubleshooting Netgear Login

routerlogin.net doesn't load. You're not connected to the Netgear network, or your browser is redirecting to a search engine. Try `http://192.168.1.1` instead. Make sure you type `http://` before the address.

"admin / password" doesn't work. Someone already changed the admin password. If it wasn't you, hold the Reset button for 7 seconds. The router resets to factory defaults with `admin` / `password`.

Login page appears but is blank. Clear your browser cache or try a different browser. This happens on some browsers with aggressive caching.

Orbi won't respond at routerlogin.net. Orbi mesh systems use `orbilogin.net` instead. Or try `192.168.1.1`.
